Blockchain will not generate trust either. I like to say that blockchain is actually the opposite of a trust machine. It’s about 2 people who DON’T trust each other exchanging value. That is really interesting and it’s technologically fascinating but it does not produce new ways of trust. Trust happens off chain.
The thing about Blockchain, is that it is purely digital. Those bitcoins are on the internet and nowhere else, they’re in the cloud if you like - only digital. Nothing happens off chain, there’s no trust off chain. But as soon as you say something like, I want to put a land title or health record on the blockchain, you need to bridge the analogue to the digital; you need to bridge the real world to the chain. That edge effect is always involving an agent or some kind of third party.
